Have you kept or broken your New Year’s resolution? Surveys show that some of the top three resolutions people don’t stick to are:

1) I’m going to do more; travel more, get a new hobby, watch more movies, write more, etc…

If you’re like most people I know, your life is already very busy and over-committed. So don’t add more to your already time-consuming schedule. It’s not realistic. Therefore this resolution will most likely have already failed.

Instead, why not pledge to do less in 2015? Try to take away a commitment or two and spend more time with your family or with yourself. I love what Iyanla Vanzant says, fill yourself up so your cup runneth over. Filling the cup is for you, the overflow is what you give to others. Give yourself permission to do less. You will feel less stressful and you will have more peace for yourself and those you love.

2) Put more money away.

The biggest mistake people make about putting money away is that it’s vague and they have no action steps associated with this resolution. The steps don’t have to be huge. They should be small, attainable steps that will lead to huge results.

With the accessibility of technology today, anybody can easily set up an automatic savings plan for $5 or $10 a week. Do this and just forget it’s there. You’ll be amazed at the results and how quickly it adds up!  The feeling of accomplishment will be well worth it!

3) Get organized.

Again it’s too vague. Many people don’t stick to this resolution because the task seems insurmountable. They want to clean out their closets or organize the garage. When they think of it, it creates great stress because they know it’s going to take all day or a few days to accomplish. What fun is that?

Apply the same strategy as above in saving money. Make realistic small action steps that will lead to big results.

For example, don’t take the whole day to clean out your closet, clean one small section or one shelf at a time. This should only take 15 to 20 minutes. You will get an immediate sense of accomplishment which in itself will motivate you to do the same small task again the next day. Before you know it, your closet is completely organized. Who cares if it takes you a week or two? It’s better than not getting it done at all because the task is too large.

You can apply this same strategy to anything you want to accomplish in life! Start with tiny steps and it will manifest huge results! The sense of accomplishment will lead you to more peace and less stress.

If you’ve already broken your resolution this year, no worries. It’s okay to begin again!
